Be Kind to Animals Week - May 1-7

Homer Animal Friends and the Homer Animal Shelter and the American Humane Association Celebrate the 96th Annual Be Kind to Animals Week. "So many animals. So many ways to be kind! That's the inspiring theme of this year's Be Kind to Animals Week, an annual event started  by the American Humane Association in 1915 to encourage compassion towards animals. Every year, animal shelters throughout the country hold special events during Be Kind to Animals Week to raise awareness about animals in our homes and communities and to celebrate the unique bond between humans and animals.

 

Strut Your Mutt

Held annually in June this is Homer Animal Friends dog extravaganza. The event starts with a game of Musical Sits and Stays, then the dog walk followed by contests (best owner/dog look alike, best costume, biggest/smallest dog, best trick, best tail wagger and best kisser) and more games. There are vendors and demonstrations and of course hot dogs and home made banana bread for lunch.

This year's event was held on June 30th. It was a bright sunny day and all the participants - human and canine - had a great time.

Homer Council on the Arts Street Fair

Visit us at the summer Street Fair. We will be selling dog and cat toys, special animal treats, Homer Animal Friends T-shirts and bags. We love to talk about dogs and cats, so stop by and tell us your pet stories.

 

July 4th and Winter Carnival

Spenser- the big dog and our mascot loves a parade. He especially likes giving dog treats to his dog friends watching on the sidelines. In 2011 HAF tied with Lisa Ann's Dog Grooming for Best of Show Animals. In 2012, Spenser was joined by Gillian, his new feline friend.
 

 

Health Fair

Every November, the Rotary Club of Homer and South Peninsula Hospital sponsor an annual Health Fair. Check out Homer Animal Friends booth at the Fair and learn how to be safe around pets and how to keep your pets safe. This year's health fair will be held on November 12th.

 

Christmas Bazaar

Treat your special friend to a new toy or yummy treat. Your holiday shopping made easy at Homer Animal Friends Booth. Watch the newspapers for time and location in November.

 

Nutcracker Faire

Un-party

Every other year HAF sends out special invitations to a select few asking them to a holiday un-party. The best thing about this party is you don't have to go out on a cold night, buy a new dress or get a baby sitter. In the comfort of your own home you can write a check to help one of HAF special programs.
